Storage of Petroleum Products

Petroleum products are complex mixtures of materials derived from crude oil as it is processed in oil refineries. These come in various grades of liquid fuel oil (blended to give gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel, heating oil and heavy fuel oils. Heavier fractions can also be used to produce asphalt, tar, paraffin wax, lubricating, petrochemical feedstock, etc.

Gases – like propane (LPG), butane, pentane, etc. are stored in.

Liquid fuels blending – automotive and aviation grades of gasoline, kerosene, turbine fuels, diesel fuels, adding dyes, detergents, antiknock additives, etc

Slack wax – raw refinery output made of oil and wax, used in non-food products such as wax emulsions, construction board, matches, candles, rust protection and vapour barriers

Asphalt– used as a binder for gravel to form asphalt concrete in paving roads, lots, etc.

Petrochemicals – organic compounds that are turned into polymers, plastics, pharmaceuticals, etc.

Lubricants – machine oils, motor oils, greases.

Paraffin wax – used in candlewax
